The magic of teacher training

Join me (Betsy) for a conversation about the experience of yoga teacher training, the logistics, the studio philosophy and style, ask questions…

Did you know…

  • that about a third of those signed up for yoga teacher training don’t plan on teaching.  They are interested in deepening their knowledge and awareness of the physical practice of yoga, anatomy and many times the history and philosophy that underpins the practice.  These students find a life enriching experience that inspires them to teach at the end and many times these students become amazing teachers right from the start!

  • Yoga teacher training builds self-esteem.

  • Our training is divided up in to four parts.  The parts are:

  1. The practice of yoga asana, pranayama and meditation within your own experience and the ability to communicate “how to” to someone else

  2. A general overview of anatomy and physiology and the connection to the physical practice and the systems of the body

  3. Introduction to the history and philosophy of yoga, where it comes from and how it intersects with our present lives

  4. Finding and developing our own voice, as we build on our strengthens and prop up our weaknesses and learn how to thoughtfully speak about something we love.

But most importantly, these four parts overlaps, intersect and run alongside each other throughout the training.

  • Yoga teacher training is a long-term commitment that for many changes the course of their lives.  I have seen students “wake up” and change careers, change relationships, and change their health.  This is what my yoga teacher training did for me in 1994, it altered the course of my life, enabled me to feel confident to speak in front of groups of people, re-routed my career, helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and then further opened the door to manage and heal chronic health problems I have been living with my whole life.

At some point during or after the training, we come to realize yoga has seeped into our daily lives, and begins to enrich our present life experience.
